On 12th June 2017, a civic reception was hosted by the members of Clare County Council at Áras Contae an Chláir for John Burke who recently became the first Clare person to climb Mount Everest.

Cllr. Bill Chambers, Cathaoirleach, also complimented the Miltown Malbay native for establishing Elevate, a charity organisation promoting health and wellbeing amongst young people.

Cllr Chambers told those in attendance, “This civic reception is a gesture of this council’s appreciation of John’s good work in promoting wellness in young people and providing them with the tools they need to get the most out of life.”

“As Cathaoirleach, I would hope that the immense physical and mental toughness you have showcased can be instilled in those who will benefit from the wellness workshops provided through the Elevate programme,” he added.
